Set in the fourth century c.e. this is the story for the search of the book entitled ‘The Two Ways’ & was written by Jesus. The searcher is a young lad named Bryn, a scribe, who is given the mission by the Emperor Constantine. It soon becomes a journey of discovery. Bryn’s usual work for the Emperor & his various acquaintances is translating books, & copying scripture. This mission sends him off across seas to the Holy Lands & other foreign lands to deliver the books & on Constantine's secret orders; to discover this book supposedly written by Jesus Christ. On his journey he meets other Christian sects & Jews all with the same underlying belief structure but with slight differences in belief & rituals. These encounters, experiences & stories he learns all contribute to furthering his career & his friendship with Constantine, as well as bringing him to a closer understanding of God & the role of Jesus Christ in his life.
Bryn will encounter actual historical characters & will be a bystander in some of the events of this time of history. One person he encounters, who will be a pivotal role is Arius, Bryn hears Arius' a new theology that threatens the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This man Arius & Bryn are good company for each other but both have very differing views on the person of Christ & both are to meet again later in the book in the finale, when Constantine changes the face of Christianity forever.

I found The Two Ways by D. Elliot to be a very interesting read.It was hard to follow in some places, but over all the book was a good piece of historical fiction.
